A Historic Mansion

Well-Loved Heritage Site in Paris, TN

Cavitt Place, at 614 North Poplar Street, in the historical Poplar Street neighborhood is a must see when you visit the area. The mansion has been eloquently spoken of as "the Jewel of West Tennessee."

Cavitt Place is home to the Paris-Henry County Heritage Center. We serve as a local museum and cultural center. We create special events for our audience, and we offer the mansion to the community for their special occasions.

A feast for the eye, the quiet elegance of the mansion is the perfect backdrop for historical displays that offer an interpretative experience for the visitor. We take pride in hosting events and creating programs for adults and kids that enrich, inform, and entertain. We rent the mansion and grounds affordably so that all can enjoy.

The Italian Renaissance house was built in 1916 by Colonel O.C.Barton, a prominent business man and philanthropist, to enjoy with his wife Tillie, and their family. The mansion, since serving as a residence, has served well and long in the community. The house provided army office headquarters during WWII, and served for many years as the county health department before becoming the Heritage Center.

Rental Pricing for Weddings, Rehearsal Dinner and for all Occasions

$125.00 to $275.00, Depending in the number of Attendees and layout of the Party Tables, chairs, chair covers, and tablecloths are provided to serve up to 75 using indoor and outside front terrace area.

We are history in the making....Arrange for a lunch and tour with friends that includes a delicious meal, a tour of the house and a stroll up Poplar Street to see the highlights of the historic square and its surround. Visiting the Mansion

Welcome to our wonderful heritage, that of Paris and Henry County. Housed in a historical Italian Revival mansion built in 1916, we maintain our livelihood by serving the area as a museum featuring artifacts and memorabilia from our past and with a look to the future. We are here for you as a venue for staging your special events as well as our fundraisers that are informative, entertaining, and delicious. Whether we’re entertaining campers or ladies for lunch, our events are always made special by our volunteers, board members, and staff members, just for you.

Supporting the Center

We depend on community grants and individual and corporate contributions to further our cause and to ensure our continuance. Our staff of director, board members, and volunteers create revenue by way of staging special events produced from here or from elsewhere to provide funding for our operational expenses and to ensure upkeep, restoration, and preservation of Cavitt Place. Our programing is more often than not historical, always informative, frequently entertaining, and sometimes spot-on, with a current affairs topic. Our Lunch and Learn Events and History on the Move, summer camp for middle school, are both popular and well worth the effort to produce. It is such a pleasure to have the treasure of your company at these events. Please consider becoming a member and support the Heritage Center by attending our events.
